I was awarded a Master of Psychology (Clinical and Health) from Curtin University in 1998. I conducted my research in California, at Atascadero State Hospital, which is the largest forensic hospital in the world, housing 1,100 mentally disordered violent offenders. This assisted me with my subsequent work in forensic settings and correctional facilities in the UK, Melbourne and Perth.
I then changed direction and combined my life-long passion for psychology and sport, which lead me to be involved at the Western Australian Institute of Sport (WAIS) and for a decade as the Team Psychologist with AFL team the Fremantle Dockers Football Club. I now work exclusively in private practice.
I am currently the Consultant Team Psychologist for the Perth Wildcats NBL Team. I consult to the AFL Players' Association, for current and past AFL players and current members of the AFL Women’s competition. I consult as part of the Mental Health Referral Network for the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) which services athletes aiming for Olympic selection. I consult to the Australian Cricketers' Association and the West Australian Jockeys' Association, I see national and international athletes from a range of other sports, including tennis, swimming, netball, hockey, motor-cross, equestrian, as well as singers, actors and performing artists from international troupes such as Cirque du Soleil.
I provide corporate performance coaching to executive and management level personnel. This may include a thorough assessment of behavioural preferences and emotional awareness, which often provides the basis for further development. I work with exam and academic performance related stress from ATAR through to tertiary exams, as well as post-graduate and professional qualifications.
I see a range of clinical clients covering a broad spectrum of topics and receive referrals from GPs and Psychiatrists. I have trained in both clinical and sports hypnosis which is an approach I utilise very successfully. I currently divide my time between the Fremantle Dockers Football Club and private practice, where I see a combination of clinical and performance related clients. This diversity ensures that I maintain a very thorough, effective and well-rounded set of skills.
